Planned maintenance and accidental repairs

Certified maintenance, preventive and corrective work, technical and intermediate overhauls, accidental repairs (RIT, RAD).

SCRL Brașov provides certified maintenance services (preventive and corrective) for powered rolling stock to maintain safety and reliability in operation, under contracts and/or orders issued by beneficiaries. Maintenance function certification by vehicle type is supported by SCRL maintenance sheets (ST), SCRL maintenance documentation, and other authorised STs from applicant ERUs or vehicle owners. Maintenance programmes are therefore carried out on the basis of SCRL’s own maintenance documentation and maintenance documentation supplied on request from the vehicle’s declared ERU or from the vehicle owner, meeting the obligation under Article 5 of R 779/2019.

Preventive and corrective maintenance

SCRL Brașov maintains locomotives through organised preventive and corrective maintenance. These activities account for roughly 90% of total production and are essential for: traffic safety; continuity of rail services; reducing major failures.

Planned overhauls – importance

Planned overhauls are scheduled periodic interventions to: prevent defects; maintain technical parameters; extend locomotive service life. They are defined under applicable national rail (NF) rules or manufacturer recommendations reflected in maintenance sheets (ST): distance run; operating time; calendar days.

Types of periodic overhauls
  • Technical overhauls (intervals from the specific ST, coded RT, R1, R2, 2R2, R3… R6): general locomotive operation checks; inspection of electrical, mechanical and pneumatic equipment; safety system checks.
  • Intermediate overhauls (weekly – RET002 requirement): running tests; inspection, adjustment and checks; replacement of worn components.
Accidental repairs

Accidental repairs are unplanned interventions due to: in-service failures; technical incidents; uneven or accelerated wear. They are carried out as: between-trains (RIT) work; longer-duration accidental repairs (RAD) in specialised depots/workshops.
